Viola Swamp Strikes!

Six of my children enjoyed recess on this sunny beautiful day. The remaining 11 sat on the bench to think about why they decided to harass the substitute Music teacher.

Before anyone leaves a comment about how wrong this is, and how I'm not allowed to take away recess, and how these kids need fresh air and exercise. I AGREE. That's why I am feeling so Swamp-y.

I would NEVER say there was ANYTHING wrong with that!!! It's called a consequence! People who would say it's wrong are the very reason our children are so out of control these days! If you step out of line, you pay the price. PERIOD!

Life is FULL of consequences, the quicker they learn that the better. Kids that skate through and somehow avoid the consequences can only do so for so long. The bigger the event, and corresponding consequence where they learn that, the harder it will be. It was a REAL eye opener for my brother when he turned 18, was arrested, spent the night in jail and found out that, as an adult, they hadn't called his mommy and daddy to bail him out....

I see nothing wrong with consequences! I used to make my kids in trouble walk the fence during recess. They couldn't walk with or close to anyone else. That way they still were getting to move, but not play with their friends.

I've taken away recess before, although not often. What I usually do is take away the beginning of recess -- the offender sits on the bench watching everyone else run off to play. After a few minutes, I talk to the child about why he/she is on the bench, and what to do differently next time, and after I get my apology, I send the child off to join in the recess fun.
